video on You Tube! Message from Bay McCulloch I had such an awesome time at the convention on Saturday. There are no words to describe how much I loved it!!!!! The other girls had a great time as well. It was fantastic to finally meet you (I had no idea you were Australian, that is really cool). I counted up the money that we made from the bracelets sold there and we made another $600+! I am really glad that The Students of Design has been able to help The Women's Alliance because we've enjoyed every minute of it! Everyone there was so friendly and passionate, I felt so proud to be included! What Paula had to say was really interesting too, now I know that I need to get a PHD in the consumer! ********************* To date, Bay McCulloch and the students of the Moses Brown School Design Club has raised $17, 168 by selling individualized bracelets! During her speech at the convention, Bay said for the past three years, students have gathered in her home every Saturday night from 5-9pm to make these bracelets for the "Dressing Fine for $29' Campaign. On behalf of The Women's Alliance, thanks for being such an inspiration! Clothes Help Make A New Woman By Ashley D. Diggs At 15, Leary Brock-Short was abducted and raped while walking home from school in Southeast Washington. Too frightened to tell her parents about the rape and the threatening telephone calls that came later from her unidentified attacker, Brock-Short said she ran away from home, turned to drugs and prostitution and eventually landed in jail. But with help from a court-sponsored intervention program and a professional and personal development group called Suited For Change, Brock-Short was able to transform her life. The group helped her build the skills and confidence to find a job and even provided a free designer suit. Today, Brock-Short, a Xerox account associate, sits on the board of Suited for Change, the first former client to do so. From her position there, she mentors and encourages other women to "look past their past and look to the future," she said. Contact Suited for Change for the full article! |
